Windows 7 Signs Off on RTM

It’s time to bust out the champagne and give a toast to Windows 7’s future success; Microsoft has officially released Windows 7 to manufacturing, the build string being 7600.16385.090713-1255, as confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson.

The signoff was originally set to be announced on the 13th, however for some reason they were unable to meet the targeted date, possibly due to some show-stopper bug present in the OS that they wanted to iron out before the big signoff.
Here are the Windows 7 availability dates as stated on The Windows Blog:
Windows 7 will hit the shelves on October 22nd.
OEMs will get the build on Friday, July 24th.
Microsoft Partner Program Gold/Certified members will get the build via the Microsoft Partner Network on August 16th in English only, with the other languages being available on October 1st.
Microsoft Action Pack Subscribers will be able to get the RTM in English beginning August 23rd with the other launguages being released October 1st.
Businesses needing Volume Licensing who have a Software Assurance licence will get the build on August 1st, while those who do not have an SA license will be able to snag it on September 1st.
Technet/MSDN subscribers will get the build on August 6th in English only, with the other languages being released on October 6th.

Review of New Joomla Security Extension

Review Summary

Web Security is often viewed as "their" problem. Host's see it as the website owners problem- its up to you to keep your site safe, the website owners see it as the host or the OS, or application providers job, and so on. Much like the childhood tale of the Little Red Hen - everyone is always "too busy" - let someone else deal with it.

One thing I must emphasize, you should not depend solely on any single security device or platform to guard you. Defense in layers is the right way to protect yourself. This starts at the HOST and their perimeter protection with Firewalls, NAT and other assorted systems. Then it moves inward to you and from there you have the responsibility to maintain your website and possibly the Operating System by staying on top of patching. Software doesn't suddenly go bad, it "rots." In other words, secure software today is the vulnerable software tomorrow. Adding SecureLive to your website is a strong inner defense.

As I stated at the beginning of this article you should put your sites security as the TOP and most well funded priority that will easily pay for itself by stopping a loss of revenue.

Let's reason together, say you take credit cards online, and you are hacked. The press finds out, your loss of business is immediate and then of course the potential fines and legal action. Is security still to costly?

SecureLive is a Premium product that offers more value than you are paying for. With the rise in Cyber Crime, and the sophistication of the attacks and the tools, any serious site owner, who depends on their website for revenue should not be without this product guarding their site. It's simple to install and is monitored as part of the SecureLive service. Should an attacker reach a certain threat level, the "host" of the IP is notified allowing them to take action at their end of the wire, to shut down the bad guys.

What I really liked during my conversation with Mr. Brown, was the under the covers look at the technology. He has developed a very robust and powerful system, that has the flexibility to change and grow as the threats to your site will inevitably change and become even more powerful.

Head to www.securelive.net and buy it today and start being part of the solution to e-crime rather than a victim.

Joomla 1.6 alpha release days away

Joomlashack is always excited to keep on top of the latest Joomla 1.6 news on our blog. Last week big news was announced by the volunteer developers over at the Joomla Project: the next generation of Joomla is expected to be released very soon, or in the words of Development Coordinator Andrew Eddie, "on or about 22 June, 2009."

Eddie blogged last week about some cool new features of Joomla 1.6, and posted some annotated screenshots of the revamped Menu Manager. From what we can gather through the various channels and sources, Joomla 1.6 is expected to have lots of new functionality and many usability improvements.

And what about Joomla 1.5?

Our friend Jen Kramer McKibben reports that the current version of Joomla is expected to be "supported" for three years, which means from its January 2008 release date until early 2011. She blogs:

Normally one might expect that as Joomla! 1.6 is released, Joomla! 1.5 support will become limited. (For example, Joomla! 1.0 support ends on July 22, 2009, and extension support for Joomla! 1.0 has been decreasing for some time.) However, this is not going to be the case.

Joomla 1.5 will remain the “stable”, production environment for Joomla!. The 1.6 branch will be seen as quick-moving and somewhat experimental, as the core development team adds new, badly needed functionalities (better permissions system, multiple categories, and tags among them). As those technologies mature in the 1.6 branch, they might port some of the functionality back to 1.5.

So with all this information flying around about Jooomla 1.6, what is a Joomlahead to do to keep informed? Stay tuned to our blog, of course. But for the direct source and breaking news, Eddie recommends following the Twitter search term #joomla16. One might also keep an eye on the Joomla Community blog as well.
